In bird anatomy, the Keel is an extension of the breastbone (sternum).

The keel provides an anchor to which a bird's wing muscles attach, thereby providing adequate leverage for flight.

Not all birds have keels, in particular flightless birds lack a keel structure.

The image on the right is a stylized skeleton of a bird, with the keel highlighted in blue.
