Torpor

Short-Beaked Echidnas can enter Torpor


Torpor is a sleep-like state in which the body processes slow to a fraction of their normal rate.


Animals usually become torpid to survive difficult conditions, such as cold or lack of food.



Animals that can go through torpor include birds and mammals, such as rodents and bats.
